Photos – not only for France but for Liberty!

The killing of 12 people on 7 January, four of whom were well-known cartoonists, including its editor at the French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo known for its irreverance has shaken many of us.
By pure coincidence the day of the shooting, in Stavanger, Norway an exhibition on Freedom of Expression opened. It highlighted cartoonists from around the world who are increasingly under pressure. Cartoonists not only mirror society, they challenge us and sometimes it is their job to be our conscience.
I did not photograph the actual exhibition but outside the exhibition was a wall of collated newspaper front pages published the day after the shooting. Proper journalism has become an even riskier business these days, I am grateful to the true journalism that pushes back everyday reminding us that the pen must remain mightier than the sword.
